WooBamboo Eco Toothbrush: Review!

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
WooBamboo is a company that was created by three young men who want to “innovate, inspire” and “change the world”. How? By using a simple, every-day product and putting an eco-friendly, sustainable twist on it. They created a bamboo toothbrush, which is really a medium for inspiring people to make better, more green decisions for our planet. Every time you use a WooBamboo toothbrush, the founders hope that you will be conscious of the fact that you are making an eco-friendly choice.

Why purchase a WooBamboo toothbrush?

By purchasing a WooBamboo toothbrush, you are making a contribution to a more eco-friendly world. Toothbrushes may seem small, but many people in the world use plastic toothbrushes, at a few a year. This is just one of many cases where plastic is unnecessary, and is simply adding to the growing waste in landfills. Instead of using a plastic toothbrush, you could make the simple switch to WooBamboo, which utilizes a type of bamboo that can naturally grow over four feet a day.

What is special about the design of a WooBamboo toothbrush?

First of all, these toothbrushes are made from biodegradable, sustainable, antimicrobial, and organically grown bamboo (moso bamboo). With antimicrobial properties, you won’t have to worry as much about bacteria growing on your toothbrush bristles or handle. There are no added chemicals or pesticides, and the bamboo is coated in a special wax to keep it smooth and dry. WooBamboo toothbrushes are eco-friendly and made from all-natural materials, including the bristles, which are recyclable. These bristles are “Dupont Tynex” which have been the preferred, high-quality bristle for toothbrushes since 1938. Once you are finished with the toothbrush and have recycled the bristles, you can place the handle into compost — the whole toothbrush is entirely recyclable!

What else is special? WooBamboo toothbrushes are awesome for businesses, wholesale purchase, or dental practices, because they are customizable! That means that WooBamboo can etch any saying into the handle of their toothbrushes, as well as alter the handle shape and bristle colors. The sleek design of the toothbrush is also ergonomic and appealing.

Oh, and did I mention that no pandas are harmed in the making of WooBamboo? That’s right! The type of bamboo used is not the type of bamboo that pandas feast on.

There are several different WooBamboo toothbrush designs, including:

  • Standard Handle – Ergonomically curved to fit the hand. This toothbrush is available in soft, medium and super soft (for sensitive teeth/gum) bristles.
  •  Slim Handle – Designed for a smaller mouth and/or hand. This toothbrush is available in soft, medium, and super soft (for sensitive teeth/gum) bristles.
  • Sprout – Designed for smaller children or travel. This toothbrush is available in soft, medium and super soft (for sensitive teeth/gum) bristles.

WooBamboo toothbrushes are available at many of your local specialty and organic/health food stores. They are also available at many dental practices and at online retailers, such as Ettitude.com, EcoBuns.com, BambooToothbrushes.com, HealthyGoods.com, etc. They are decently priced and, depending on the website, range from $4.95-$5.95.

As far as special care instructions go, there are only a few things you have to do differently with a WooBamboo toothbrush. You have to keep it dry, since bamboo has pores and can expand. This isn’t complicated – just set it up right in a cup and dry it off after you use it. WooBamboo reminds customers not to brush hard and to make sure to keep your toothbrush AWAY from the toilet, since flushing can spray microbes right up onto your bristles. They also remind customers to swap out brushes after two months or after you go through a sickness, REGARDLESS of the antimicrobial properties, because it isn’t a perfect science.

I love the WooBamboo toothbrush, because it makes me feel like I am making my small contribution to becoming more eco-friendly. I already do several things such as recycle and use dryer balls to reduce drying time and conserve electricity. It is always nice to find new products and ways to alter my every day routine in a positive way. Like the WooBamboo creators hoped, using this toothbrush has become second nature to me — I just swapped it out for my battery-operated toothbrush. Since I was lucky enough to receive two for my review (one slim design and one standard), I also swapped out my boyfriend’s toothbrush, and he has had nothing but good things to say about it also. With products like WooBamboo, going green suddenly becomes effortless. I personally wish they would just sell less plastic toothbrushes and put more WooBamboo brushes in retail stores, because there is no reason people should be resistant to them.

I found that WooBamboo was comfortable enough to hold, and that the soft bristles were sensitive enough for my gums and teeth (which bleed occasionally). I used the slim handle design, which I felt was perfectly sized for my slightly smaller hands. My boyfriend took the standard handle, which was great for larger hands. The toothpaste stays on the bristles just fine, and I feel like my teeth are perfectly clean after two minutes of brushing. I don’t find the special care of a bamboo toothbrush to be that daunting. I store mine in a little toothbrush holder and just wipe it off after using it. I love the design and how innovative it is. I think the message that it sends is the best!
