The Skin Regime: Review and Giveaway!

The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin is a best-selling book written by Dana Ramos which is available on Amazon, and is now in its 2nd edition. This book challenges everything that you thought you knew about skincare, and sheds light both on the lies you have been sucked into, and not-so-well-known truths. Dana Ramos gives you all the information you need to build a highly effective beauty regimen without going bankrupt in the process. You will learn the real way to get beautiful skin in this lighthearted and elucidative read.
Dana Ramos is a writer and entrepreneur currently living in Westchester, New York. Dana is a “skincare enthusiast” who decided to share her beauty regimen with the world after receiving many compliments and questions about her very youthful appearance. Dana was not born with beautiful skin, but she figured out how to sift through what the beauty industry has to offer, and weeded out all of the useless products, to come up with a routine that truly worked. To make sure that all of the information in her book was up-to-date and correct, Dana elicited the help of her friend and dermatologist, Dr. David Bank. Dr. David Bank is the founder and head of The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic, and Laser Surgery in Mount Kisco, New York. He has been featured in several major television shows and magazines.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin, as well as a 1-4-All Peel for the purpose of this review. I was excited, because it seems that lately, my skin hasn’t been giving me much of a break. Certain products have helped here and there, but the results seem to be very temporary. I have only very low-key patches of acne, but this is more than I ever had to deal with as a teenager (I am now in my early twenties). I don’t feel comfortable leaving the house without a layer of foundation, which is something I’ve always wished I could change. Even when I don’t have a pimple or two, my very sensitive combination skin never seems to be one color, or to have that healthy, bronze glow that I desire. I had heard great things about The Skin Regime from fellow bloggers. I also saw that “Tan Mom” (remember her?), who had extremely leathery, rough skin from over-tanning, was able to reverse many of the damages she had made to her skin using this very book and system! I thought, jeez, if that can be reversed, there is definitely hope for my very minor issues! I had also never tried a true skin peel (just moisturizers, creams, and acne products) previous to receiving this one, and I was interested in learning more about them.
I picked up The Skin Regime to take with me in the car ride from Maine to New York (which is about a six hour drive), figuring I would alternate between it and another science fiction book I had brought. After taking my motion sickness medicine, I started reading it aloud, not really giving my boyfriend an option NOT to hear it (since he was driving). I thought I would read it for awhile and then switch, but I must have gotten sucked in, because I read it from front to back rather quickly, without a break. This book roped me in because it was written it in a way that makes sense. Dana Ramos is not another department store beauty counter representative, who is trying to tell you everything that you want to hear. For once, I felt like I could actually trust what I was hearing. The Skin Regime is very conversational, and is not just a bulleted list of tips and ingredients. It is written in layman’s terms, but still contains enough “science” to satisfy your curiosity. It is a great read for a car ride, the beach, or even a rainy day.
Have you ever looked at the expensive facial creams and moisturizers in department stores and wished you could afford them? I have. I am not usually one to be duped by false advertising, but I will admit, there is something strangely enticing about a “revolutionary” new product that can cure acne, diminish lines and wrinkles, and give you supermodel skin in just a few days. The problem is, in the skincare industry, you are NOT getting what you pay for. Those tiny $100 jars full of expensive, hard to pronounce ingredients, are no better than the products you can pick up at the local drugstore. I had a hard time coming to terms with this, because there are major, “trusted” health and beauty brands that market these facial products. I once heard from a professor in college that all of these products are garbage, but I brushed off his words…what do guys know about beauty products, right?
Wrong. The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin brought these old memories back to the forefront of my brain. I figured it would be a good read, with some nice tips for skincare — it is so much more than that! It was a truly enlightening book, and I feel that it has changed the way that I view this industry, and how I will personally take care of my skin as I begin to age. I don’t want to divulge too many of the “secrets” in The Skin Regime, because I really urge you to pick up a copy for yourself. This is an ideal read for any beauty lover, or anyone who wants to improve the condition of their skin. I may have read it quickly, but it is a book that I will continue to use as a reference, when I am figuring out what products to purchase.
The Skin Regime didn’t just teach me about what products I should be avoiding – it gave me a whole new (short and inexpensive) shopping list. I was so surprised that everyday items that I have overlooked in the drug store can actually have more benefits than some of the products I have bought in specialty beauty stores. I learned how to enter the Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin, and just how easy and effective the routine really is. Dana gives easy-to-follow instructions, and provides a complete overview on the mystical skin peel. I learned what ingredients I should be looking for when I purchase a skin peel (and in what amount), and what kind of results and side effects I should come to expect. The Skin Regime teaches you how to maintain your beautiful skin once you get it, and it doesn’t just focus on your face; there are tips and tricks for achieving beautiful skin on every inch of your body. The Skin Regime also goes into detail about what skincare surgeries and medications aren’t worth your time, and what ones are actually safe and effective. The ONLY portion of The Skin Regime that I was not crazy about was the fourth section, which went into some detail about different makeup products. Some of the tips were great (and I have found them to be true), but I don’t agree with the fact that older women cannot wear eyeshadow that is shimmery or has flakes of glitter, or the fact that most people should stick to brown mascara. I believe there are tasteful ways to implement every look, and age certainly shouldn’t restrict one to matte eyeshadow!
Since reading The Skin Regime, I have taken a hard, second look at many of the products I have been using on my skin. I don’t have a really LONG regimen, and luckily I was doing some things right, but there are definitely products I will be avoiding in the future. I still believe that many of the serums I have reviewed for you guys fall under the category of “acceptable”, judging by the levels of certain ingredients that Dana recommended in The Skin Regime. I have started using Dove’s Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar Soap and Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. I stopped buying makeup remover, and started using the products that Dana had suggested. One of the other great things? I started using skin peels, beginning with the 1-4-All Peel that I received!
The 1-4-All-Peel is a Skin Peel specially manufactured by The Skin Regime, which contains all the ingredients you need to achieve healthier and more vibrant skin. It can help with a number of conditions, such as: moderate acne, fine lines, fading brown spots and discoloration, reducing large pores, reducing sun damage, etc. Everything you need is in one bottle — you receive four different “strengths” depending on how you layer the skin peel. One layer will give you a mild peel, two-three layers will give you a moderate peel, and four layers will give you a strong peel.
The instructions are relatively easy, and you will end up reapplying a peel every seven to fourteen days (you have to wait at least seven days), until you have used a total of six to eight peels. The Skin Regime will give you more detailed instructions, but basically you want to start out with a one-layer peel in most cases, and work your way up to the four-layer peel. You always want to test ANY skin peel on a patch of skin that is not very visible, before you put it on your face, just to make sure you don’t have a negative reaction.
You want to:
  •  Wash your skin with a rough washcloth and mild soap, and make sure to rinse thoroughly.
  • For sensitive skin, use witch hazel or rubbing alcohol and water and remove oil from your face with a cotton ball. Non-sensitive skin will be fine with rubbing alcohol or a peel prep solution. Let your face dry.
  •  Moisten a cotton ball with the 1-4-All Peel and dab it across your face, careful to avoid your eyes and other sensitive areas. Only dab over each portion of your face once.
  • For your first peel, leave for 1-5 minutes, depending on how you are tolerating it, and then wash off with mild soap and cool water. Next, dry, moisturize, and apply sunscreen. If it is your second or third peel, allow the first layer to dry and then add on a second layer of peel.
The Skin Regime reminds you that flaking, peeling, and redness are all normal side effects. You also may experience “frosting”, where you will see small white dots on your skin; this is also normal and should fade away soon after you removed the peel.
The 1-4-All Peel contains the following ingredients:
Purified water, SD Alcohol 40B (natural), Mandelic Acid, Trichloroacetic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Resorcinol, Pomegranate Extract, Lactic Acid, Sodium PCA, Urea, Inositol, Sodium Benzoate, Niacinamide, Sodium Lactate
Right now, given the schedule of the Beauty Boot Camp, I have been able to use two peels, waiting more than seven days in between to give my skin a chance to rest. I have not yet posted photos, because I want to complete as many peels as I can with my sample sized bottle before showing you my results. What did I notice so far? The first peel was new to my sensitive skin, so I did experience some redness and flakiness, but I knew not to be alarmed. I did not see the temporary increase in pimples that some people do experience, so I was pretty happy. My skin felt a lot softer after just the first peel, and I noticed that I had that “after peel” kind of flush/glow that is described in The Skin Regime. Between using the 1-4-All-Peel, as well as the recommended moisturizers and other products, I really feel like I have a chance at squashing my mild acne and getting a more even tone for my skin overall. I am very happy with this product so far, and can’t wait to update you after I have finished the bottle.
Right now, you can purchase The Skin Regime by Dana Ramos on Amazon, here, for just $10.96. You can purchase the Kindle Ebook for only $9.95. Five percent of book revenues are donated to non-profit organizations. The sample peel that I received as part of my review is available on The Skin Regime’s website for just $14.95. You can also purchase the 2 ounce, larger size of the 1-4-All Peel for $41.95. Other products available include: A Peel Preparation Solution (for use before the 1-4-All Peel), Gentle Cleansing Lotion with Jojoba Esters, the Advanced Care Moisturizer, or the Skin Regime Bag. There are also several value packages which include The Skin Regime book and products at a discounted price..these make awesome gifts!

  8. My favorite product at the moment is Benefit's They're Real mascara. The tip of the wand is dome-shaped and makes it easier to wing out the corner lashes.
