In 2013, I introduced you to a great product called the Anti Allergen Laundry Detergent by The Ecology Works. Just a few days ago, I also introduced you to the awesome hospital-grade disinfectant called Vital Oxide. Today, I am lucky enough to be reviewing another product from The Ecology Works: The Anti-Allergen Pet Shampoo. In case you forgot what The Ecology Works and their products were all about, here is a snippet of one of my past reviews:
The Ecology Works has been devoted to helping people stay allergy free since 1995. They are proud to offer earth friendly, plant-based solutions to tackle dustmite allergies, allergies in general, and disinfection as a whole. They make a wide range of effective products that can control the symptoms associated with allergies, such as asthma and other breathing problems. They offer something for virtually every environment, from school to work to the household. The Ecology Works is Medinex certified and has the Green America Approval.

As you have seen in previous posts, my Dachshund mix, Lulu, has quite the array of skin issues. Most recently, she started to pull her fur out around her tail, and she consistently bites her paws to the point of redness and bleeding. She has redness and hot spots on her belly as well. Many products that we are using are helping to bring this under control, but we were lacking in the shampoo/conditioner department. We were excited to review the Anti-Allergen Pet Shampoo not because WE are allergic to pet dander, but because we wanted to see if this shampoo could help ease some of her itching. We know that she has non-specific allergies, which makes it hard to figure out exactly what might be causing her outbursts of itching. I found one flea on her about a week ago, but I haven’t seen one since, and I have been meticulously checking.
Luckily, we had the Ecology Works’ Anti-Allergen Pet Shampoo to target any potential fleas. Since we gave her a bath, I haven’t seen any more, so this may have helped with population control. Our favorite thing about the Anti-Allergen Pet Shampoo was the smell, and how fresh and clean it made Lulu. She was very soft and healthy looking after she was done with her bath. It lathered up nicely and did not seem to exacerbate her condition by irritating her sensitive skin. I cannot speak for its ability to relieve pet dander since I don’t suffer from pet allergies myself. While I think it may have helped with the fleas, I do not think that it helped relieve her itching. One problem is that I think different formulas target specific allergens more than others, and we just don’t know what is causing hers. We will still continue to use this shampoo in the future, for flea prevention and just to help Lulu get fresh and clean.
